Elyria, Ohio St. Paul's United Church of Christ / St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed 1959 M. P. Möller Opus 9234 Notes In the spirit of sharing information on Möller organs, I thought I would share information about the organ at the church where my wife, Marcia, and I worship, St. Paul United Church of Christ in Elyria, Ohio. (We became members there in 2006 after I "retired" from 47 years as a church organist and choir director that took my career to four churches in the Cleveland, Ohio area.) The current sanctuary of St. Paul UCC was constructed in 1959 and the organ installed that year was a five rank Moller, Opus 9234. The original instrument had five ranks, a Viole at 16' (with 8' and 4' derived); a Viole Celeste at 8'; a Principal 8' (with 4' and 2' derived); a Gedeckt 16' (with 8' and 4' derived); and a Trumpet 8' (with 4' Clarion derived). The 1959 Moller was updated and expanded to 12 ranks in 2002 by the Hemry Pipe Organ Company of Novelty, Ohio. To the above specifications, an 8' Spillflote (with 4' and 2' derived), an independent 4' Octave and 2' Super Octave were added to the Great Organ along with a three rank Mixture (which, along with the Super Octave gives a Mixture IV effect). Also added was a 1 1/3' Quinte from which (along with the Gedeckt) a Nazard was derived and 12 pipes were added to the Trumpet to achieve a 16' Contra Trumpet. At the same time the console was updated with a solid state switching system and new Multiplex switching and wiring from the console to the chambers. The overall results of the enlargement of Moller Opus 9234 are favorable and pleasing and in the hands of our very capable organist, Cathy Stacey, the instrument supports congregational singing quite well. The one constraint is that the accoustics of the sanctuary are rather "dead." Also, unfortunately, there is no exposed pipework so there is not a "proper" visual effect.
