Notes The church's first organ was a I-manual reed (pump) organ. When the Hammond came into vogue, the church purchased one for $1,500.00. In the 1950's, after the new (present) church was completed, a II-manual, 5-rank Maas pipe organ was installed. It must have been a 2nd-hand instrument, because Maas ceased pipe organ production in the 1940's. On July 14, 1988, a II-manual, electric Galanti Praeludium II was donated to the church, and the Maas was sold to Mr. Terry Robson of Portland. The present pipe organ has its origins in several sources: -It contains pipes from the former Kimball at St. Mary's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. -Several ranks are from the organ at Kimball Hall in Chicago, Illinois - whose organ was first moved to First Methodist Church in Peoria, Illinois before being moved to Portland where it was "synthesized" with the St. Mary's organ, and installed in the Barnes Mansion where Dr. D. Deane Hutchison lived and taught organ lessons for Pacific University and Portland State University. -The organ also contains portions of a III-manual, 18-rank, 1928 Guenther originally built for the Salem, Oregon residence of Prof. L.S. Roberts who taught at Willamette University. -The console came from the Hillsboro residence of Shirley Upgrave. It was originally a II-manual console, but was taken to a cabinet shop and rebuilt & enlarged into a III-manual console. On the Great, the 8' Nachthorn is a tapered extension of the 4' Nachthorn. The V Cornet has independent 2-2/3' and 1-3/5' pitches, and borrows it's unison pitches from the IV Mixture. The IV Mixture has independent 2-2/3' & 2' pitches, and is wired on itself an octave higher. On the Swell, the Stopped Flute, Gamba, and Gamba Celeste are Kimball. The 8' Oboe is actually an Oboe Horn and is likely also Kimball. The III Mixture is a used Violin Diapason wired as III-ranks. Starting composition is: 15-19-22. The 8' Trompete is marked 5862 Fug. Horn. It was revoiced by Schantz with new parallel French shallots. On the Choir, the 16' Dulciana is an electronic 12-note Peterson extension. The 8' Spitz Principal is a used, revoiced Gemshorn. The 8' Chimney Flute is stopped wood for notes 1-15. The 8' Dulciana is Kimball. The 8' Unda Maris is a used Dulciana. The 4' Spitz Principal is a used, revoiced Spitz Flute. The 2' Principal extension breaks back to 4' pitch for the top 7 pipes. On the Pedal, the 16' Principal is an extension of the Great 8' Principal. These pipes and the first 20 of the Great 8' Principal are Casavant from the Presbyterian Church in Elmira, New York. Much of the pipe reconstruction and revoicing was done by the Schoenstein Organ Co. of San Francisco, CA. [Received via e-mail from James R. Stettner February 28, 2009.]
