The organ was originally built for Zion Lutheran Church in Oakland, CA. The Great 8 ft. Open Diapason originally had its first 19 pipes in the stenciled façade. It was replaced there in 1946 by Aeolian-Skinner, Opus 1102. At that time, the organ was relocated to Grace Lutheran in Visalia, CA. by the original builder – Thomas Whalley. A this time, the two side wings of the case containing pipes 1 – 8 of the Great 8' Open Diapason were removed due to space restrictions. The original 27-note flat and parallel pedalboard was also replaced with a 30-note concave and radiating pedalboard in the original style, but the two manual-to-pedal couplers were not extended. In the late 1960's, the pastor from Grace Lutheran in Visalia was called to serve Resurrection. He informed his new parish that the old organ from his Visalia church was available for $200.00. It was retrieved by members of Resurrection Lutheran, delivered to Des Moines, and stored in the basement of the [then] current church. In 1978, the organ was reinstalled by Glenn D. White dba Olympic Organ Builders. Tonal changes were made at the time of installation in WA. [Received from James R. Stettner November 20, 2011.]
